Comanche is the name of this horse that was gravely injured in the infamous Battle of Little Big Horn (Battle of Greasy Grass)in which the 7th US Calvary was defeated by native forces. The Horse was nursed back to health and became a living symbol of Manifest Destiny for the majority of the 20th century. However, more equitable interpretations are able to see the Taxidermized horse as an artifact of this historic event that also represents conflict over land rights and cultural identity for native persons to this day.
